7th- Generation Family-Owned
Diamonds and Jewelry Business
Paramount Gems is a 7th-generation family-owned diamond and jewelry business that has established a strong base in New York since 1978.
It all started during the Mughal regime in the 17th century with my ancestor Kanhaiyalaji Choradia, a diamond and gemstone merchant from the famous bazaar of Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. He became known for his prized collection of gemstones: diamonds from the famous Golconda mines of the Deccan, fiery Burma rubies, turquoise from Persia and China, spinals from Afghanistan, beryl, cats-eyes, amethysts, garnets , topaz, sapphires, moonstones and pearls from Sri Lanka, South-East Asia and Arabia. Whether it was the English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese, Rajput or Mughal, they all competed when it came to getting the first look at the goods on display.
